Chanel Taboo Swatched

I have a love/hate relationship with Chanel polishes. When Chanel does something right – cough Peridot cough – they hit it out of the park. Lately though, probably because it’s spring, the colors have been blah to me – orange, coral, pink, snoozers. I did get the lovely Skyline blue polish, and ordered Western Light (more on that later) but for the most part it’s been a while since Chanel has really lit me up.

A friend of mine asked me whether I had ordered Taboo yet, and I blinked – what? I have a pretty good hookup at Nordstrom who takes sadistic glee in showing me each new collection months before it is coming out and watching my face fall as I calculate the damages on my credit card, and this had not been dangled in front of my nose. I went online and – poof! There it was. So I emailed my local Nordstrom friend, and ordered one from online just in case, and the next day the email reply was “We just got it in, and we didn’t know anything about it until it was here.”

I was at the store approximately seven minutes later, five of which was spent waiting at red lights. And here it is for your shopping pleasure. I was told this is NOT a limited polish, so you need not rush right away to get it – you can stop at red lights if you need to. At first I thought it looked like Metallic Vamp from online, but it is lighter and more wine-colored than Metallic Vamp. This is one of my favorite polishes Chanel has put out in a long while.

Chanel Metallic Vamp

Today I needed something special on my nails. I had a bad, bad day yesterday and am still coming out of the resulting funk. I was at a loss as to what would make me feel better in the way of polish, what was truly special. And then I remembered a treasure in my stash.   Way back in ’95 or so a friend told me about Chanel Vamp and insisted that I buy it. This was, of course, way before the nail polish boom that’s going on now. I think it was a whopping $18 for this polish, but I gladly shelled it out for the purple in the group of three shades. Somehow I have managed not to lose or break this bottle in the ensuing years, although the outside of the bottle is not exactly pristine. When I remembered I had this, I thought it might do the trick.   This is with one coat. Despite its age, this polish hasn’t thickened one bit. Photo Jan 20, 7 22 25 PM

Then, just to add a little something, I did a topcoat of YSL Premiere neige. I kind of think the YSL gets swallowed up, especially in the direct sun (the second picture) but it was a good thought. Photo Jan 21, 3 23 16 PM Photo Jan 21, 3 23 39 PM

Chanel Liquid Eyeliner!

Apparently right after I left Nordstrom for the Chanel event last Friday, the word was given to release new colors instead of holding them until this Friday, or something like that. All I know is I got to the counter and said, “where’d that shadow come from,” and my favorite Chanel person said “What time were you here Friday?” and these items had all come forth afterwards. There are a couple cream eyeshadows, etc, but here’s what really got me.

There are three beautiful liquid eyeliners. Noir (black), Purple (which actually has a little bit of sparkle to it as well), and Platine. Let’s chat about Platine. This one is limited. While it sound like silver, when Amy put it on my hand, it actually also had a little bit of something else in it – a light brown or purple or bronze but I just call it WOW.

I work at home and often don’t bother to do anything in terms of makeup. That being said, I have a feeling if nothing else I’ll throw on this Platine liner and some mascara before I leave my house. Since it’s limited, I got two. You can buy it at Nordstrom for $34 with free shipping, or from Chanel. It’s been on my hand for about three hours now with no sign of budging until I want to be rid of it. Which might be never.

Updated: I was pretty tired when I got home last night after meeting up with some other local nail polish lovers for dinner, and I admit I zonked out. It’s now 11 am (yes, I’ve been up for a while, STOP JUDGING ME), and that lovely Chanel eyeliner is still on – 15 hours later.
